Is State Farm a good option?
Main Post:
Hi guys, I am 20, I have a 627 credit score, and have a few speeding tickets (all paid on time), currently my mom has my car on her insurance but I am trying to move out and she won’t pay for it when I do that, I have about 1,800 left to pay off (plan to have it paid off in 3 months max) and need to start looking at car insurance, all the advice is to shop around which I’ve done but so far State Farm seems to be my best option, is there anything I should look out for with State Farm? Are they a decent insurance company? Is there any negatives to state farm I should be aware of? I got a quote for like 300$ but currently my insurance (according to my mom) is like 600$ so that’s why I’m asking about it, are they gonna like raise the rate a lot after 6 months or something? I am completely new to car insurance stuff and have no clue what I’m doing but I’m trying to be an adult

I'd make sure they are running reports. You are young, you have tickets, and you likely have little or no credit. You certainly fall outside their normal appetite.
Why is statefarm so much cheaper than all the other auto insurance providers? Is it a trick?
Main Post:
So, I just hit 30 and I've been with Geico for about 4 years, because I know for a fact geico is way cheaper for young guys than almost every other provider.
Well, right now I'm paying about 780 for really stellar coverage 300/300/50 with 300,000 in underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage. Essentially I am very well protected and want to keep it that way.
Well, since my renewal is coming up and I'm curious I ran quotes with absolutely everyone I could think of and they were all slightly more expensive or maybe saved me 20 bucks which doesn't seem worth the hassle.
Yet I run a quote with statefarm, same coverages and they will do it for 580, which is obviously a significant savings. Now I've heard some places "trap" you by giving you a really low rate and then jacking it up later, is that whats going on? Why are they willing to do this for 200 less than everyone else, am I in their target demographic they are really pushing to get (just turned 30 males)?

Interesting. I've always found State Farm to be one of the most expensive (and I'm in my 50s and haven't had an accident since I was 16).
State Farm Auto insurance, Washington State 👎 🚀
Main Post:
Hey there- wondering what auto/ home insurance bundle is good, and is not increasing rates upwards of 200% in less than 6 months time... l think I need a new provider.. 🚗
I just received (another) call from my State Farm agent letting me know my rates will be going up another $33 per month.
No accidents, no speeding tickets, nothing- and in the last 12 months I have seen my insurance rates raise over 200% 😷
JAN - AUG 2023 $58 SEPT 2023 $92 FEB 2024 $125
Is anyone else experiencing this as well? If not, who are you using?! Is this even legal???
TIA!

Everyone's rates in Washington are going up. For everything. Last time I shopped SF was the cheapest for me, but your millage may vary so to speak.

So, my car insurance through State Farm just nearly DOUBLED in price to $205 a month for LIABILITY. What the hell?

Same deal with me. It is starting to make more sense why so many people just say "fuck it" and drive around with no insurance or registration.
State Farm—Am I Being Unreasonable?
Main Post:
I have a conundrum with my current SF agent. For context, I’m in TX. I have quite a few policies: home, auto, and four rental property policies. I have full coverage on all vehicles and an umbrella. I spend roughly $2500/month with SF. My issues is predominately with the car insurance. I have teen drivers, and I expect to pay for that, but here lately getting changes made to these policies is challenging. In July we added our last teen and his used truck to the policy, and things have gone haywire since. I was quoted one amount by the agent, but then SF rated the teen on a different vehicle which made the insurance exorbitant. I emailed the in-office agent I’ve worked with, and he passed me on to another assistant. A week would pass and I would text looking for a follow-up, and not much would change, or I’d get the “we are working on it.” The lack of communication left me so frustrated that I eventually emailed the primary agent (the SF office has his name) and cc’ed the non-responsive assistant. I did get an apology from the primary agent, and he put me in touch with a new assistant who was more responsive and fixed some of the issues.
On Nov 8 I needed to remove a vehicle from a policy and the more responsive assistant said these changes would be effective that same day. Tonight I logged onto my app and the car is still listed on the policy. She also told me she needed the “proof” from my daughter’s new ins so that underwriting wouldn’t be an issue. Is this typical or am I being taken on a wild goose chase? Does SF typically take weeks to make changes to policies? I don’t want to pull teeth to get things done, and I don’t want to walk in the office either. I did at one point threaten to shop around if they couldn’t bring down the insurance, but that only seems to be natural. For the record, I have three male drivers under 21 on my policy, one has had an at-fault accident and he has a surcharge on his policy. I just feel like the service here has been sub-par, but if SF takes weeks to make simple changes to policies like car removal maybe I’m being unreasonable? Any advice would be welcomed, though at this point I’m ready to jump agents.

I can tell you from direct experience: it's not the agents fault. State Farm's policy maintenance system is antiquated and is being fully replaced by new software on a state by state basis. Texas is still a year or two away. The existing system worked great when corporate underwriting and service centers were fully staffed. That hasn't been the case since Covid, although it's slowly improving.
A change like adding a driver can take 2-3 weeks to process. After that the new policy info has to be processed by SFPP (billing), which can be another 2-3 weeks. It can easily take 2-3 bill cycles for a complex situation to sort itself out. And no amount of yelling or begging by the agent will expedite the corporate process here.
I'd sincerely cut the agent some slack. They all know the current system is bad, but there is nothing they can really do except juggle it and wait for it to be replaced, and/or for corporate to hire more people.
If State Farm sucks, who do you use?
Main Post:
Hello! Throughout the last year, insurance rates have gone up twice, and I’ve tried using a broker (rates much higher) and also got quotes on my own which ended up with similar outcomes of higher rates. To be fair 6 months ago, State Farm was able to reduce the increase, but now its renewal time again.
I really don’t care about company loyalty since insurance is just a service. I’d like to pay a fair price, be with a company that reviews rates once per year and that has easy claim/customer support.
4 cars, 1 home, 1 Umbrella, 2 Life
So I’m curious, which insurance company are you using and why?

Progressive is good. Rates really can vary but don't be surprised if all insurance companies have high rates, it's the world we're in right now. Over the last 3-5 years mortgage rates alone went from 2.5% from 2017-2020, and now they're like 8% (and going to 10%), my point is, everything is going up and insurance rates aren't excluded from that.
State Farm Sucks.

What's the best way to let other folks know how sketchy an insurance company is? My parents house flooded, and the insurance adjuster will not pay what's covered in the policy, they lied to my parents and said things would be covered and then closed the claim, they stonewall on every possible area. Our public adjustor & our lawyer have said that these agents are awful, and some of the worst they've seen. How can we warn other people about them? Can we file a complaint with the state? is there a way to post public reviews? We are devastated and my parents are on a fixed income. At this point we have hired lawyers so honestly there's prob not much left we can do but we want some semblance of justice wherever we can get it.

You can leave a google review.
But it really doesn't matter. Insurance companies reviews are generally unreliable. The only people who leave reviews are upset customers. Some of them should be upset when their insurance company makes a mistake, but a very significant portion of those reviews are people who either did not read their policy, or did not understand their policy. They expected more coverage then they paid for and choose to take it out through reviews. Or they are upset their rates went up, when the entire industry is raise rates. ETC.
And we live in an age where people just buy botted reviews.
EDIT: Also worth noting your particular agent has no say in coverage decisions. Your assigned adjuster makes coverage decisions, and just works for State Farm proper, not your particular agency. You could put a dent in your particular agents google reviews. Looking around at some agents near me they only have 30 or so reviews. But reviewing state farm proper isn't going to move the needle.
State Farm vs. GEICO
Main Post:
I (46M, single, Florida) am currently insured with State Farm. I just received my renewal, and unsurprisingly, my rates have increased rather dramatically. I am fully aware that rates have been going up across the board and that Florida has its own unique set of challenges.
Given the increase, I have spent some time shopping the policy, and GEICO has provided a quote that is $340 cheaper than my current SF policy. Every other quote, including quotes from a local independent agent, are substantially more expensive.
Does anyone know of a compelling reason why I should not take the savings and make the switch? I appreciate everyone's insights.

as a geico employee we’re a sinking ship 🤷🏻♀️ but truthfully, florida is an all around high rate state for multiple reasons. also online quotes don’t always have everything rated, i’ve seen policy jump once started and people freak out cause the quote was so low. but we got a report and that changed the rate. i say stay with SF you know what you have and the pros are worth the cost
I have had it with StateFarm. What's the better choice?

I have been SF customer for 24 years with 3 cars and home(20 years) and never has this bad. Last month my son got into a no fault car accident where some elder guy knocked his car and it got totaled. I filed the claim with SF and we agreed to settle the total loss on Aug 4th. The claims specialist promised me to get the powe of attorney document to sign overnight. I did not receive it for the next entire week. Then upon follow up, they could not locate the document so I asked them to send another one at my SF agent's office. It got there next week and after lot of follow up, I went to sign it. Again the agent took 10 days to post it back to SF due to his personal emergency. Finally after lot of phone calls and follow up, I got the funds EFT by Aug 29th. I ended up buying another car and also paying for the car rental after Aug 11th since SF does not pay anything 7 days after they settle the claim ... Whenever I spoke with the claims agent, it is as if they are doing favor by paying the total loss claim. Rubbing salt to the damage, they increased my monthly premiums for other 2 cars as well without any explanation. None of the family members have any pending tickets and at fault accident history. I am getting an impression that this company does not deserve my faith and my business anymore. Is there any marketplace where I can get quotes from different companies/agents? I live in Atlanta and this should not be this hard.

A) inflation and losses. Everyone's rates are going up.
B) They paid for 7 days of rental coverage after? Most only give you 3.
State Farm is getting RIDICULOUS
Main Post:
In the last year my car insurance went from $114 (last feb) to $177 in the notice I just got 😩
Has everyone’s jumped ? Is this normal ?!?
I’m not a ticket collector or a dui driver - the hell.
Should I be happy it isn’t more ?!?

Every renewal for the last few years mine has increased at least 20% with no tickets or accidents. I shop around occasionally and never find better rates. Car insurance is becoming ridiculous
